Snowy day sledding

After watching a snow storm out the window I decided to do a snow related illustration. 

I wanted to do something other than a contemporary sledding illustration so I researched and found a lot of fun reference for 50's children's winter attire.

Baking Apple Pie

I found an old sketch I did of a little girl holding a bucket of apples, and since I liked the character I decided to do a few illustrations based off of it!

A story about an egg

I've started listening to audiobooks while working on my pop art paintings, not only does it make the time go by faster but the stories I am listening to give me ideas for fun illustrations! I decided to do this three piece series about a boy and a dragon egg. It is set up as a 2-page spread for picture books and includes area for the text.

I am very proud of this little dragon as I've never drawn a dragon before!

Horse Illustration

I took the colt character that I designed (in previous post) and put him into an illustration. It was a lot of fun!

Characterizing a Horse

I decided that I wanted to try drawing stylized horses since. I took a reference photo of a horse and redrew it multiple times in different styles/characterizations. Then I chose my favorite character design and created a 9" tall 3D maquette using a wire armature and sculpey clay.

This was originally a piece I did when I was first learning how to do digital illustration, so now that I have a better understanding of how to paint digitally I decided I would refine it and change the little girl into the character style I have decided to use for all my other pieces.
